The Arctic has long been a major source of industrial goods and materials, but its current supply chain is not well developed and can pose threats to global security, the experts warn.
The new Arctic industry, according to the report, will bring a level of security that has never been seen in the region before.
“The supply chain for industrial parts is highly complex, and the security is likely to be enhanced by using technology that is better suited to the Arctic environment and the local climate,” the report says.
It says the Arctic industry will be the third-largest source of supply for the Canadian Arctic.
Arctic Industry Canada said it has the capacity to handle the security challenge and is working with partners to develop an industry-wide security strategy.
Canada is also developing a National Security Strategy to ensure its security and the national interests of the country are not compromised.
